Lead

Dr. Peter Fodran

After finishing his master’s in Organic Chemistry at the Comenius University in Bratislava, Peter moved to the University of Groningen to work on his PhD thesis.
During 4 years working under the supervision of Prof. A.J. Minnaard, he developed novel strategies for the synthesis of glycerol-based lipids. After completing his PhD thesis, he stayed in the same group as a postdoc, this time working on an efficient, convergent total synthesis of methoxy-Mycolic acid.

After its completion, Peter moved to Symeres (Syncom at that time), where he worked on the synthesis of process impurities, stereochemically complex intermediates and route scouting for major pharmaceutical companies and small chemical start-ups. After securing the first Karl Tryggers fellowship and later the Marie-Curie Individual fellowship, Peter moved to the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, where he worked with Dr Calle Wallentin on photoredox catalysis.

Peter next moved to the UK, where he briefly worked in process development at Pharmaron in Hoddesdon, followed by almost two years at Charles River Laboratories in Harlow as a medicinal chemist. In 2022, Peter was recruited back to his alma mater, where he holds a tenure track in sustainable drug development. Peter’s research interests revolve around photocatalysis and organic synthesis.
